Celebrating the Heroism of Security Guards in Canada
More than 140,000 security guards work across Canada, helping to safeguard our workplaces, residences, healthcare facilities, retail spaces and entertainment venues.
Much of this work happens quietly and behind the scenes. Security professionals are often so familiar a part of the places they protect that many people may not fully recognize their presence or their importance until help is needed.
But the role of a security professional can extend far beyond traditional policing and enforcement.
Across Canada, security professionals are regularly placed in situations where their training, awareness and willingness to act can make a critical difference. There are countless incidents in which security personnel have responded to emergencies and, through their direct actions, helped save a life.
These moments deserve to be recognized.
Recognizing Canada's Security Lifesavers
The Canadian Security Lifesaver Association was established to recognize security professionals whose actions go above and beyond their everyday responsibilities and to raise awareness of the significant contributions they make to Canadians.
Originally established in 2019 by Paragon Security, CSLA grew to include several leading Canadian security companies working together in a non-partisan and non-competitive effort.
The purpose is bigger than recognizing one company or one organization. It is about recognizing the people working on the front lines of Canada's security industry.
These professionals may work in retail, healthcare, residential communities, educational institutions, commercial properties and many other environments. Regardless of where they serve, they can find themselves among the first people responding when an emergency occurs.
More Than Security
A security professional may be called upon to respond to a medical emergency, assist someone in crisis, intervene in a dangerous situation or provide immediate assistance while emergency services are on their way.
In those moments, training and situational awareness matter.
So does the willingness to step forward.
The actions of security professionals often take place without widespread public attention. CSLA helps ensure that extraordinary actions do not simply go unnoticed.
By recognizing and sharing these stories, we can celebrate the individuals involved while also bringing greater awareness to the important role security professionals play in public safety across Canada.
