Nooraldeen Amer Al-Ajely & Gareth Mathews — Q4 2025 Winners

Quick Thinking Averted a Potential Tragedy

In September 2025, security personnel at a government building were faced with an extremely serious and rapidly developing emergency involving an individual in crisis.

The individual had moved between several floors of the building and was observed looking into the open atrium below. After intentionally activating a fire alarm, the situation escalated further when the individual set himself on fire using hand sanitizer, suffering serious burns.

Emergency services were contacted while security personnel responded to the incident and helped manage the building.

As the situation continued, Security Patrol Guard Nooraldeen Amer Al-Ajely encountered the injured individual on the third floor. Al-Ajely directed other occupants toward evacuation routes while maintaining awareness of the individual's movements.

Team Lead Gareth Mathews approached from the opposite direction to help contain the area.

The individual then attempted to climb over the atrium railing.

Without hesitation, Al-Ajely and Mathews moved in and pulled him away from the railing, bringing him safely to the floor and preventing a fall to the level below.

First responders arrived moments later and transported the individual to hospital.

Their willingness to act during an extraordinarily difficult situation helped prevent further serious injury or loss of life.

The Canadian Security Lifesaver Association proudly recognizes Nooraldeen Amer Al-Ajely and Gareth Mathews as Q4 2025 Winners for their courage, judgement and decisive action.
